Made From the Right Leather
Good leather gets better with age.
Blast Forge leather goods are made primarily from high-quality vegetable-tanned leather—chosen for its strength, character, and ability to develop a rich patina through years of use.
Unlike heavily coated or synthetic-looking leathers, veg-tan remains a remarkably honest material. It can be cut, carved, tooled, molded, dyed, burnished, stitched, and finished by hand. Every step leaves a little evidence of the maker—and eventually, of the person who owns it.
The result isn't something designed to look untouched forever. It's something designed to look better because you've used it.
Why Vegetable-Tanned Leather?
Durable. Quality veg-tan can withstand years of handling and develops character rather than simply wearing out.
Beautiful with age. Sunlight, oils from your hands, friction, and everyday use gradually deepen the color and create a patina unique to the owner.
Made for handwork. Veg-tan takes tooling, stamping, molding, dye and burnishing exceptionally well—the techniques that give handcrafted leatherwork its character.
Repairable and maintainable. Properly cared for, good leather can be conditioned, refinished and repaired rather than discarded.
Natural variation. Grain, scars and subtle differences in color are part of genuine leather. No two pieces will ever be precisely identical.
Built by Hand
Cut. Dyed. Tooled. Stitched. Finished.
Blast Forge leatherwork is made in small quantities using traditional techniques. Each piece is cut and shaped by hand, edges are carefully finished, and seams are saddle stitched by hand for strength and durability.
Saddle stitching uses two needles working from opposite sides of the leather, creating a strong, independent stitch structure that doesn't unravel like a machine lockstitch can if one stitch is damaged. It takes considerably more time, but it produces the kind of construction that belongs on leather goods intended to last.
Some pieces are simple and understated. Others incorporate hand tooling, contrasting leather, unusual dyes, or more elaborate designs. In every case, the goal is the same:
Make something worth keeping.
What I Make
Wallets & Card Holders · Notebook Covers · Bags · Knife Sheaths · Holsters · Custom Leatherwork
Leather shouldn't stay new.
It should soften in your hands, darken where you touch it, pick up a few scars, and eventually tell the story of where it's been.
That's the kind of leatherwork I make.
